Les Hinckley was survivor as much as winner.

With leaders getting taken out left and right over the closing laps, Hinckley, of Windsor Locks, was in the right place at the right time and won the 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series event Friday at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H.

It was the first Valenti Modified Racing Series victory of the season for Hinckley.

Todd Owen of Somers was second and Lou Mechalides of Tyngsboro, Mass. third.

The closing portion of the race saw Jon McKennedy, Rowan Pennink and Jeff Malave all lose the lead because of aggressive tactics at the front of the field.

Hinckley inherited the lead when Malave lost the top spot in a battle late in the race with Larry Barnett, which also collected then third place runner Tim Jordan.
