Ted Christopher Grabs Whelen Modified Tour Mr. Rooter 161 Pole At Waterford

WATERFORD – There was a time when Ted Christopher was the one of the driver’s everybody was looking to beat week after week in competition at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Saturday Christopher showed that despite not competiting regularly at the shoreline oval for more than a decade, he hasn’t forgotten the fast way around the .375-mile oval.

Christopher, of Plainville, won the pole in qualifying Saturday for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Mr. Rooter 161 at Waterford.

The Mr. Rooter 161 marks the first Whelen Modified Tour event at Waterford since 2006.

Christopher, the 1992 SK Modified champion at Waterford, is the track’s fourth-winningest driver all-time in the division with 33 career victories at the track.

Christopher also won a Whelen Modified Tour event at the track in 2002.

Christopher toured the Speedbowl oval in 13.740 seconds (96.943 mph). Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield was second in qualifying at 13.747 seconds (96.894 mph).

Series points leader Doug Coby of Milford was third fastest in time trials with a lap of 13.757 seconds (96.823 mph).
