Valenti Modified Racing Series Back In Action Friday At Lee USA Speedway

With rain chasing the Valenti Modified Racing Series out of Connecticut last week, the division heads north this weekend.

After a rainout of the Lincoln Tech 80 scheduled for last Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway, the Valenti Modified Racing Series heads this weekend to Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H. for the division’s fifth event of 2012.

For series points leader Jon McKennedy, it’s a trip home Friday at Lee. McKennedy, a two-time Valenti Modified Racing Series champion from East Chelmsford, Mass., was a former Small Block SuperModified regular at Lee.

McKennedy, also a regular on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour this year, has won two of the four Valenti Modified Racing Series events this year in his first year driving for team owner Art Barry of Preston.

McKennedy won the season opening Valenti Modified Racing Series event at the Waterford Speedbowl on April 1 and won the second event of the season on April 21st at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.

Friday also marks a homecoming for the most recent series winner. Lou Mechalides of Tyngsboro, who won the Valenti Modified Racing Series event at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway on June 9th, is a former Lee USA track champion.

Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. won the other series event this year on May 20 at Thompson International Speedway.
