Keith Rocco Cruises To SK Modified Victory At Thompson Speedway

THOMPSON – Keith Rocco is never one to shy away from exciting action on the racetrack.

But Thursday night at Thompson International Speedway, boring was just as good for the Wallingford driver.

Rocco took the lead from Kerry Malone on a lap three restart and drove away to an easy victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Thursday at Thompson Speedway.

It was the second victory of the season at Thompson for Rocco. Ryan Preece of Berlin was second and Ted Christopher of Plainville third.

The race went green the rest of the way following the lap three restart and Rocco held a comfortable lead until the checkered flag.

“It was a pretty smooth ride,” Rocco said. “Wasn’t much action. I feel bad for the fans. It was kind of boring. But when you’re out front leading you kind of want it that way. If I was second I’d be screaming for a caution, but I didn’t want any cautions out there.”

Said Preece: “We ran our tires from last week and this car is going so good that we ran the same right rear and usually we’d put a right front to the right rear. It was still good. We ended up with a second. Second is still good in my book. We were still in front of Teddy and we we right there. We’ll have tires next week and see what we can do.”
