THOMPSON – Former NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion Keith Rocco left Thompson International Speedway Sunday in an ambulance after a practice crash in his SK Modified Sunday.
Rocco’s fiancé Cassie Ceravolo said he likely sustained a broken left wrist in the accident (Rocco’s wrist after the wreck is pictured to the left).
The wreck happened at about noon at Thompson in a practice in preparation for a 30-lap SK Modified division feature later this afternoon.
Rocco, of Wallingford, was transported to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam where he was being evaluated.
According to witnesses, Rocco cut a tire going into turn one on the .625-mile oval at Thompson and looped the car into the wall.
Rocco competes full-time in the SK Modified divisions at Thompson, Stafford Motor Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl. He also competes full-time on the Whelen Modified Tour for Boehler Racing.
Rocco, who won his first Whelen All-American Series short track national championship in 2010, is currently second in the All-American Series national standings.
