Back To The Front: Ken Cassidy Jr. Returns To Mini Stock Victory Lane At Waterford

WATERFORD – For most drivers, going four events between victories likely wouldn’t deem a second thought.

For Ken Cassidy Jr. it was a four race span that may as well have been an eternity.

That’s what happens when you win nine of the first 10 events of the season.

Cassidy, of Lisbon, drove away from the field after a restart with nine laps remaining and easily won the 50-lap Mini Stock feature Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Ray Christian III of Norwich was second and Jeffrey Cemrbuch of Wallingford third.

It was the 10th victory of the season for Cassidy, who scored his ninth win of the season on June 16. Since June 16 Cassidy had two seconds, a third and a fifth place.

“It feels great to be back in victory lane,” Cassidy said. “The thing wasn’t perfect but we made due tonight. We made a couple last minute changes and my crew, they’re awesome. I wouldn’t be here without those guys. They work hard every week on and off the track, they’re at my shop putting hard, dedicated hours into this thing and that’s why this thing is so good.”

Cassidy was tested by Cembruch at the halfway point of the event, but was able to fight off the challenge. Cembruch lost second to Christian following the final restart.

“After the first few weeks, every week I was saying the competition was getting on their A-game and you see it, everybody is getting faster,” Cassidy said. “Really I just think everybody stepped up their games because our lap times are pretty much the same as they were in the beginning.”
