Kyle James Grabs SK Modified Victory At The Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Kyle James has had a front-running SK Modified all season long at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Saturday night he finally ended an evening at the front.

James, of Ashaway, R.I., held off Shawn Monahan on a restart with three laps left to win for the first time this year.

Monahan, of Waterford, held on for second and Jeffrey Gallup of Agawam, Mass had his first career podium finish in third place.

James inherited the lead when Jeff Pearl and Doug Coby wrecked in battle for the lead with three laps left. Coby was driving in relief of Keith Rocco, who started the event.

In the last race at Waterford, on Aug. 4, James lost the lead to Coby on a late restart.

“It’s huge weight off my shoulders,” James said. “We’ve had a chance to win four or five nights this year and just things haven’t fallen our way. Especially after last [race], the way we ran up front the whole night and that last restart against [Doug Coby], it was a dagger.”
