Mike Stefanik On Pole For Whelen Modified Tour Bud 150 At Thompson International Speedway

THOMPSON – Mike Stefanik backed up his practice efforts perfectly at Thompson International Speedway Thursday.

Stefanik, of Coventry, R.I., was fastest in practice at Thompson and then went out and won the pole for tonight’s Whelen Modified Tour Bud 150 at Thompson.

The 54-year old Stefanik, a 7-time series champion, toured the .625-mile Thompson oval in 18.538 seconds (121.372 mph).

It was the 47th career Whelen Modified Tour pole for Stefanik, extending his own series record. It was the 9th career pole for him at Thompson and his first in the series since June 6, 2010 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

Stefanik was the last of 25 drivers to take time in qualifying.

Bobby Santos III, running part-time this year for Tinio Motorsports, was second in qualifying at 18.613 seconds (120.883 mph).

Ted Christopher, making his debut in the Boehler Racing Enterprises No. 3 as a fill-in for injured driver Keith Rocco, was third fastest in qualifying at 18.667 seconds (120.534 mph).

Reigning series champion Ron Silk was fourth fastest and series points leader Doug Coby was 14th fastest.
