Mike Stefanik Tops In Whelen Modified Tour Practice At Thompson Speedway

THOMPSON – A couple of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s fifty-something’s showed the young guns the fast way around Thompson International Speedway Thursday afternoon.

Mike Stefanik of Coventry R.I. topped the speed charts in practice for tonight’s Whelen Modified Tour Budweiser 150 at Thompson.

Stefanik toured the .625-mile oval with a best lap of 18.687 seconds (120.405 mph).

Nipping at Stefanik’s heals was Ted Christopher, making his debut in the Boehler Racing Enterprises No. 3 as a fill-in for injured driver Keith Rocco.

Christopher, of Plainville, had a fast lap of 18.707 seconds (120.276 mph). Christopher and Stefanik are both 54 years old.

Doug Coby of Milford, who has won four of the first seven events this season in the division and leads the standings, was third fastest in practice at 18.716 seconds (120.218 mph).

Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass., a part-timer in the division this year driving for Tinio Motorsports, was fourth fastest at 18.732 seconds (120.115 mph). Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. was fifth fastest at 18.734 seconds (120.102 mph).
