Preece some early race dramatics before running away with his fourth consecutive victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Thursday at Thompson.

It was Preece’s sixth win in the last seven races and his ninth win overall in 15 events this year at Thompson.

“My crew does such a great job,” Preece said. “I can’t thank them enough.”

Todd Ceravolo of Gales Ferry, was second, about a half a straightaway behind. Woody Pitkat of Stafford was third.

Preece dedicated the victory to John Blewett III, who was killed in a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event on Aug. 16, 2007 at Thompson.

“I know he’s up there and watching down on all of us,” Preece said. “This one’s for him.”

Preece got through a three-wide battle with Ted Christopher and Richie Gallup on the first lap.

“I had fun when we went three-wide with Teddy and [Gallup], I wish we could that every lap,” Preece said. “It was a lot of fun.”

Preece went by Kerry Malone for the lead on a restart on lap six and never trailed again.

Ceravolo went past Malone for second on lap 13 but couldn’t make up any ground on Preece out front.

“Todd was coming, I knew he had a real good car,” Preece said. “I was just hoping we wouldn’t get a caution.”
