Sunday Rain Date Plan Set At Waterford Speedbowl

It seems for most of this season a racing weekend hasn’t passed without at least one show locally being ruined by weather.

This weekend the management at the Waterford Speedbowl is planning ahead for the possibility of inclement weather.

Waterford Speedbowl officials announced Friday that they have put in place a plan for a Sunday rain makeup should tomorrow’s Winged Saturday event be postponed because of rain.

The Saturday schedule is part of a makeup of last weekend’s scheduled Wings and Wheels Show, which was rained out.

Brought back for this weekend from the Wings and Wheels show were the International SuperModified Assocation and Northeastern Midget Association. The Valenti Modified Racing Series, which had also been scheduled to be part of the Wings and Wheels show, will makeup their event at Waterford on Sept. 8. Tomorrow’s schedule also includes the track’s Whelen All-American Series divisions.

“We are anticipating completing our Wings & Wheels event on Saturday, as planned. However, should weather interfere again we want to notify everyone our intent to use Sunday as a rain date for the full racing card,” Speedbowl owner Terry Eames said in a release from the track. “There’s a lack of available dates as we get late into everyone’s season, and officials from both tours felt this weekend is our best chance to complete the event.”

Sunday’s possible schedule would be announced if track officials make the decision Saturday to use the makeup event.
