Tommy Barrett Jr. will reunite with an old crew member to take a run at a victory at the Waterford Speedbowl Saturday night.
The 17-year old Barrett, of Millis, Mass., will drive for Norwalk team owner Doug DiPisa in the in the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Saturday at the Speedbowl.
Barrett is a regular on the Valenti Modified Racing Series.
“We’re excited,” said DiPisa, owner of Prestige Motorsports. “He’s excited too. It should be a good time.”
DiPisa was a crew member on Barrett’s team when he had a historic run in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway in 2010.
When he won his first SK Light Modified feature at Stafford on June 6, 2010, Barrett became the youngest driver to win in the track’s history.
He went on to score a division record 10 victories that season. He followed that up with four victories as a part-timer in the division in 2011. His 14 victories are second all-time in the division at Stafford behind Chris Matthews’ 17 wins.
Barrett returned from a two-race suspension on the Valenti Modified Racing Series earlier this week to score a third place finish in the division’s 75-lap feature Sunday at Thompson International Speedway.
DiPisa said the plan for now is to run Barrett for this week, but he said they could end up running more events together at the Speedbowl.
