THOMPSON – Luck hasn’t been on the side of Andy Seuss this year on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

A little bit of home cooking changed that on Sunday.

A trip back to New England for Seuss proved the perfect elixir for the Hampstead, N.H. driver and regular on the Southern Modified Tour.

Seuss held off Matt Hirschman over the closing laps to win the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour GreenPointe Energy 75 Sunday at Thompson International Speedway.

It was the first victory of the season for Seuss on the Southern Modified Tour and his first career victory at Thompson.

Hirschman, of Northampton, Pa. was second and Rob Fuller of Boylston, Mass. was third.

“I can’t thank this team enough,” Seuss said. “We’ve had a terrible year luck wise.”

Seuss went by Burt Myers for the lead on lap 24 and never trailed again. Hirschman went by Myers for second on lap 43 but never had a chance to make a good challenge on Seuss.

“That’s when I started to get worried, when they said [Hirschman] was coming,” Seuss said. “And he came hard. I don’t know if lapped traffic helped or hurt.”

Said Hirschman: “I just came up a little bit short. I was able to get to Andy but not make a move. I didn’t have the drive coming up off [the corners]. We were about equal, he was probably just a little bit better the last few laps.”
