Doug Coby Tops The Speed Charts In Whelen Modified Tour Practice At Thompson

THOMPSON – Last year Doug Coby made the UNOH Showdown event at Thompson International Speedway look like his own personal play time.

Coby, of Milford, won the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour portion of the event and then followed that up by winning the Showdown event pitting the Whelen Modified Tour drivers against their Southern Whelen Modified Tour counterparts.

Early Saturday at Thompon Coby looked fully ready for defense.

Coby was fastest overall in combined Whelen Modified Tour and Whelen Southern Modified Tour practice at Thompson.

Both divisions will run separate 75-lap points paying features on Sunday before the 50-lap non-points UNOH Showdown.

Coby had a fast lap around the .625-mile Thompson Speedway oval of 18.862 seconds (119.287 mph) in the second practice Saturday.

Coby, who has won four of nine events this year, leads the Whelen Modified Tour standings with five events remaining this season.
