Jon McKennedy Wins Valenti Modified Racing Series Lincoln Tech 80 At Stafford

STAFFORD – Stafford Motor Speedway has long been a track that has proved frustrating for Jon McKennedy.

Friday night the Chelmsford, Mass. driver exorcised the demons that have plagued him at the half-mile oval as has ran to a dominating victory in the Valenti Modified Racing Series Lincoln Tech 80 at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the first career victory at the track for McKennedy and his fourth win this season on the Valenti Modified Racing Series.

“Tonight was awesome,” McKennedy said. “It feels good to win at a track I struggled at in the past but I felt like this year each time I raced I got better.”

Chris Pasteryak of Lisbon was second and Doug Coby of Milford third.

McKennedy passed Stafford’s all-time winningest driver Ted Christopher for the lead on a lap 44 restart and never trailed again.

“Tonight we won and we beat one of the best there is and we drove by him on the outside which was pretty cool,” McKennedy said. “I’m happy with that.”

McKennedy, a two-time series champion is in his first year driving for Preston car owner Art Barry. With three events remaining McKennedy holds the point lead and looks like the favorite to grab a third title and a first in the series for Barry.

“Hopefully we can win the championship,” McKennedy said. “It ain’t over yet. There’s still three races left. Anything can happen. We’ll see what happens at [the season ending event at Lee USA Speedway on Oct. 21].”
