On Tap: The Curtain Begins To Fall

The local racing scheduled will see three consecutive weekend steps in the wind down of the season in Connecticut.

The first step comes this weekend with the running of the CarQuest Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway.

The showcase event of the weekend at Stafford is the penultimate race of the season for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

The division runs a 150-lap feature Sunday where Milford’s Doug Coby will be looking to complete the season sweep of Modified Tour events at Stafford. Coby has won in the division’s first three trips to the half-mile oval this season.

The festivities kick off Friday at Stafford with practice for the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Grandstands will be open at the track for fans for free on Friday.

Qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour Fall Final 150 is Saturday afternoon.

Sandwiched between qualifying and features at Stafford is the Waterford Speedbowl’s final weekly Saturday night event of the season with a car that features twin features for both the Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions.
