THOMPSON – Woody Pitkat took a tour of the podium in the closing stages of the SK Modified feature Sunday at Thompson International Speedway.
In the end he landed on the top spot.
Pitkat, of Stafford, went from first to third and back to first again in the closing stages to win the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Sunday at Thompson.
“That was pretty crazy there,” Pitkat said. “Man this is awesome.”
It was the final points event of the season Thompson prior to the track’s season ending World Series of Speedway Racing Oct. 12-14.
Ryan Preece of Berlin was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.
Pitkat was leading with Preece in second and Todd Ceravolo in third when things got crazy for a lap 29 restart.
Ceravolo went low to go to the lead in turn one, but then Preece grabbed the top spot in turn two before Pitkat rallied back to grab the lead back in turn four. The wild jostling ended with Ceravolo spinning in turn two to bring out the caution after the white flag came out
