Erica Santos Returning To NEMA Midget Action Saturday At Stafford Motor Speedway

The only female ever to win a race in the 60-year history of the Northeastern Midget Association is returning to the division this weekend and doing it at the site of her historic victory.

Erica Santos will compete in the Ed Breault #44 in the 30-lap feature for NEMA on Saturday’s 9th CarQuest Super Saturday card at the Stafford Motor Speedway.

The event was formerly known as Extreme Tuesday for its first eight years running at Stafford.

Santos is filling in the seat normally occupied by Joey Payne. Santos spent fives season driving for Breault before leaving the division in 2010 pursue a masters degree in nursing.

She was running for Breault when she won the NEMA feature on the Extreme Tuesday card at Stafford on July 10, 2007.

“I love Stafford,” Santos said in a release from NEMA. “It is, of course, a special place and we have always had a strong car there.”

Santos also competed regularly in the past in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford. Santos’ younger brother Bobby Santos III was the 2010 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion.
