The Madhouse beckons Ryan Preece.
The Berlin driver will cap a four-day Modified racing weekend Saturday by competing in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at the legendary Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
It will mark the second appearance for Preece at the track dubbed “The Madhouse”. He competed in a weekly event at the track in 2010. Preece will drive at Bowman Gray in his family owned Modified Tour car.
“Going to go have some fun,” Preece said. “It started out as a joke. We were always talking about how we were going to go down south and run Bowman Gray. One thing led to another and everybody was saying we were coming down so we don’t want to disappoint anybody.
“You’ve got to go there at least once and run the Tour there and experience it. I think we’ll be good. The car is really good. We’re ready to go.”
It’s exclamation point on a busy four days of driving for Preece. He finished second to Matt Hirschman in the $10,000 to win Open Modified show Wednesday at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway. He followed that up with a victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Thursday at Thompson Interational Speedway.
Friday he will compete in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Stafford 150 at Stafford Motor Speedway in addition to competing in the track’s weekly 40-lap Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature.
“If you love to race this is what you want to do,” Preece said. “This is something you strive to do. I’m very lucky to have the car owners that give me the opportunity to drive all these races.”
