Waterford Notes: Ken Cassidy Tops Again In Mini Stocks; Rob Summers Gets ISMA Win

WATERFORD – The Mini Stock division reign of Ken Cassidy continued Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Ken Cassidy Jr.

Cassidy, of Lisbon, edged Sean Caron at the checkered flag to win the 25-lap Mini Stock feature.

It was the 11th victory of the season for Cassidy, matching Dan Darnstaedt’s record for wins in one season in the Mini Stock division. Darnstaedt accomplished the feat in 1995.

Cassidy went from fifth to second when Ian Brew and Bill Leonard crashed in a battle for the lead with 3 laps left. Cassidy went by Caron on the outside on the ensuing restart.

Caron, of East Hampton, held on for second. Ray Christian III of Norwich was third.

Rob Summers of Manchester had the dominant car and made it hold up in winning the 50-lap International SuperModified Assocation feature.

It was the second career victory for Summers in the division and his first since taking over the Vic Miller owned ride this year in place of series legend Chris Perley.

Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass. was second and Tim Ice of Seville, Ohio third.

Rich Staskowski of Hope Valley, R.I. took the checkered in the 30-lap Late Model feature. It was the first win of the season for Staskowski.

Bruce Thomas Jr. of Groton was second and Jeff Smith of Old Lyme third.

Corey Hutchings of Salem picked up his fourth victory of the season in the 25-lap Street Stock feature. Joe Arena of Bristol was second and Phil Evans of Uncasville third.
