The 21-year old from Concord, N.C. came from the back of the 22-car field Saturday to win the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 140 at Greenville Pickens Speedway in Greenvile, S.C.

It was the series leading fifth victory over the last nine series events for LaJoie, who needed 23 series starts before getting his first victory earlier this year. The victory vaulted LaJoie into the series points lead heading into the division’s season finale Nov. 3 at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway.

Chase Elliott was second and Jesse Little third.

LaJoie came into the race at Greenville trailing Kyle Larson by one point in the standings. He left the track Saturday with an eight point lead over Larson and 16 points better than Brett Moffitt in third in the standings.

Pole winner Brett Moffitt led every lap until the final green-white-checkered when LaJoie used a litte bump and run to take over the top spot. The race was extended to 146 laps.

“I thought we had a pretty good run up there on the high side on [the final] restart,” said LaJoie, who restarted second, outside of Moffitt, on the green-white-checkered restart. “We went down into [Turn 1], and [Moffitt] ran me up into Spartanburg. So once he got clear on the backstretch, I was like, ‘Well, ok, screw you right back.’ So I went down there and give it to him. I got him loose, got him out of the groove and got the checkers.”

Moffitt, who ended up eighth, did not speak to media at the track after the event but posted on Twitter later: “Had the winning car and got dumped. Story of the season.”

It was a career best finish in his sixth series start for Little, the 15-year old son of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour series director Chad Little.

Larson ended up fourth.
