Penalty Drops Corey LaJoie From Title Favorite To Long Shot Going To K&N Pro Series East Finale

Four victories over the last seven events put Corey LaJoie in the position of championship favorite heading into the K&N Pro Series East season finale at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway on Saturday.

Tuesday NASCAR made him a long shot for the title.

LaJoie, was penalized 25 points by NASCAR for a carburetor violation following found following his series leading fifth K&N Pro Series victory of 2012 Saturday at Greenville Pickens Speedway in Greenville, S.C.

“A carb that’s been dissected 3 times after wins and now after the 4th is suddenly no good,” LaJoie posted on Facebook. “It’s being appealed. That’s it.”

Saturday’s victory vaulted LaJoie from one point behind Kyle Larson in the standings into the points lead, six ahead of Larson, with one event remaining.

Now LaJoie will go to Rockingham third in the standings, 19 points behind Larson and three points behind Brett Moffitt, second place in the standings.

Ron Otto, LaJoie’s crew chief, was fined $5,000 and suspended until the fine is paid.
