It will happen next weekend at Thompson International Speedway.

Ted Christopher confirmed Friday that he will be driving a car for team owner Mike Smeriglio at the Whelen Modified Tour Sunoco/Town Fair Tire World Series event at Thompson on Oct. 14.

Smeriglio fields a full-time car in the series for Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield.

Christopher, of Plainville, had been planning to run the Boehler Racing Enterprises No. 3 ride he has been campaigning, but made the decision this week to change things up for the final event of the year.

Christopher replaced a then injured Keith Rocco in the Boehler Racing Enterprises ride before the Aug. 9 Whelen Modified Tour Budweiser 150 at Thompson International Speedway.

BRE lost its primary car in a vicious wreck at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sept. 22. Christopher ran a Wayne Anderson owned car at the CarQuest Fall Final 150 Sunday at Stafford. He had been expecting to run a secondary BRE car at Thompson that the team had been preparing.

“It’s not like I didn’t want to do anything with the [Boehler Racing Enterprises] guys,” Christopher said. “[Team president Mike Boehler] told me ‘That car and that motor is basically maybe a top-five car.’ And with me, I don’t mind just racing, but I don’t need to make more laps. I want to go to the track and try to win. So I threw something out to [Smeriglio] and he seemed receptive. So I’m going to bring some guys and stuff like that and it should be good.”

In addition to the Whelen Modified Tour car, Christopher will also run his own SK Modified at Thompson on Oct. 14 and he will run a Joe Brady owned car in the Valenti Modified Racing Series event on the World Series car on Oct. 13. Christopher won in Brady’s car in the last Valenti Modified Racing Series event at the track on July 29.
