Thirty Two Signs Honey Badger Of The Week Award: Danica Patrick

In the universe that was Daytona for nearly two weeks, she was the sun all orbited around.

Speedweeks began with Danica Patrick revealing the juicy details involving her relationship with fellow Sprint Cup Series rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and from there Danica-mania, part whatever, took over Daytona.

And give her credit, because many out there were predicting all the hype, all the attention, all the build-up would end ugly for her in the Daytona 500 Sunday.

Thanks to Randall and his glorious YouTube classic, we all know this, “Honey Badger don’t care.”

According to Randall: “The honey badger has been referred to by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most fearless animal in all of the animal kingdom.”

So we know the Honey Badger: “Just takes what he wants. He has no regard for any other animal whatsoever.”

Therein lies the gist of the Honey Badger of the Week Award.

And Patrick lived up to those Honey Badger qualities with her eighth place finish in the Daytona 500 last Sunday after making history in winning the pole for the event.

As Randall says: “The Honey Badger is really pretty badass. It has no regard for any other animal whatsoever” and such Patrick went unruffled through Speedweeks despite everybody waiting for her to get tripped up.

In the end, after becoming the first female pole-winner in Sprint Cup Series history, she ran with the leaders all day at the Daytona 500. When it came down to it in the closing laps, not surprisingly, few wanted to work with her, but again to her credit, there was no panic and she held on to end a quality day with a quality finish.

Now we all know that restrictor plate racing such as what takes place at Daytona International Speedway, is hardly a true barometer for “getting it” but Patrick absolutely deserves credit for getting through Daytona without disaster and doing with a little Honey Badger flair.
