Rowan Pennink Leads The Way In Whelen Modified Tour Practice Saturday At Thompson Speedway

THOMPSON – The drivers of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour shook off the icicles of winter and kicked off Icebreaker weekend at Thompson International Speedway with practice in preparation for Sunday’s season opening event.

Leading the way during the practice session was Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. who put up a fast lap of 18.646 seconds (120.669 mph) around the .625-mile oval.

Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. was second fastest during the 90-minute session at 18.651 seconds (120.637 mph). Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. was third fastest at 18.655 seconds (120.611 mph).

Seven-time series champion Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. was fourth fastest (18.670 seconds, 120.514 mph) and Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield fifth (18.716 seconds, 120.218 mph).

Ron Silk (Norwalk), Woody Pitkat (Stafford), Bobby Santos III (Franklin, Mass.), Ryan Preece (Berlin) and Chuck Hossfeld (Ransomville, N.Y.) rounded out the top-10 in practice.

Time trial qualifying for Sunday’s Icebreaker 150 takes place Saturday afternoon.
