SK Modified Feature At Thompson Speedway To Be Extended Sunday In Memory Of Racer Jimmy Smith

THOMPSON – Thompson Speedway officials announced Saturday evening that Sunday’s scheduled 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modiifed feature will be extended to 33 laps in memory of driver Jimmy Smith.

Smith, of Woodstock, passed away unexpectedly following his participation in an SK Modified heat race Saturday at Thompson Speedway.

Smith competed at the track in the No. 33 SK Modified.

“Everyone at the Thompson Speedway is saddened at the loss of Jimmy,” Thompson general manager Jonathan Hoenig said in a release from the track. “Words cannot express how all of us feel at this time. We extend our deepest sympathies to Jimmy’s family, friends and fans. Jimmy was a talented race car driver and he loved the sport dearly. He will be missed by everyone in the racing fraternity.”
