On Tap: NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Rolls Back To Stafford Motor Speedway

When the last checkered flag flew for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour it was Bobby Santos III celebrating Spring Sizzler victory at Stafford Motor Speedway on April 28.

After about three weeks off, the division returns to action right back where they left off.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour takes the green flag on the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

And keeping with the weekend theme of a little extra all on the schedule locally, Saturday night the Waterford Speedbowl will have extra distance events for every race on the schedule.

Schedule: Whelen Modified Tour TSI Harley-Davidson 125, 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 30-lap Late Model, 20-lap SK Light Modified, 20-lap Limited Late Model and 20-lap DARE Stock. Grandstands open: 4:15 p.m.; Qualifying begins: 6 p.m. Features begin: Approximately: 6:30 p.m.
Tickets: Adults $33, $35; Youth (6-14) $5, children 5 and under free.
More: The third week of Friday night racing at Stafford. … The third event of 14 events this season for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Mike Stefanik won the season opening event on April 14 at Thompson International Speedway. Bobby Santos III won the second event on April 28 at Stafford. A scheduled May 11 for the series at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. was rained out and postponed to July 27. … Rowan Pennink and Ryan Preece are tied for the points lead on the Whelen Modified tour. Stefanik is third, one point behind the leaders and Ted Christopher is fourth in the standings, two points off the lead. The top eight in the standings are separated by nine points. … Preece, Pennink and Christopher also make up three quarters of the top-four in the SK Modified division standings at Stafford. With two victories this year, Preece is tied for the SK Modified division lead with Sean Foster. Pennink, who picked up his first career Stafford SK Modified victory last Friday, is eight points behind the leaders. Christopher is tied with Pennink in third place.

Schedule: 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 35-lap Late Model, 30-lap Street Stock, 30-lap Mini Stock and 25-lap Legends. Grandstands open: 3 p.m.; Qualifying: 5:30 p.m.; Features: 7 p.m.
Tickets: Adults $17; Youth (6-14) $6, children 5 and under free.
More: The seventh event of the season at the shoreline oval will see five laps extra from the normal distance run added to each feature on the schedule. … Kyle James came from the last (23rd) starting spot last week to win the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature. James became the fourth different SK Modified winner in six events this year. Keith Rocco has three wins and Joey Gada and Tyler Chadwick each have one win. … Rocco goes into the night as the SK Modified division points leader, with a 23-point edge over second place Craig Lutz. Rocco’s father-in-law, Todd Ceravolo, is third in the standings, 27 points off the lead. … Rocco also leads the Late Model division standings at Waterford, holding a 1-point edge over reigning division champion Dillon Moltz.
