On Tap: Take Two For The Whelen Modified Tour TSI Harley-Davidson 125 At Stafford Speedway

A dreadful Memorial Day weekend forecast saw NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour officials and the management at Stafford Motor Speedway decide a couple weeks ago to postpone the division’s TSI Harley-Davidson 125 to June 7.

Now that makeup date is close to arrival and dare we say, don’t look at the forecast. And that’s all we’re saying about weather for this race weekend locally.

Thompson International Speedway is set to run its second Thursday Night Thunder weekly show of the season. The Waterford Speedbowl will have a normal six division Whelen All-American Series racing card on Saturday.

More: The second week of Thursday night racing at Thompson for in 2013. The track opened for the season on April 13-14 for the annual Icebreaker before a long break between shows before last week’s first weekly event of the season. A scheduled May 19 event featuring the Valenti Modified Racing Series was rained out. … After two events there is a three-way tie for the lead in the SK Modified division standings at Thompson between Ryan Preece, Keith Rocco and Woody Pitkat. Rocco and Preece each have one victory and one fourth place finish. Pitkat has a second place and a third place finish. … Antique Outlaw Modifieds will have some special exhibition action this week.

The event was originally scheduled for May 24 but was postponed because of rain. … Mike Stefanik won the season opening Whelen Modified Tour event on April 14 at Thompson International Speedway. Bobby Santos III won the second event on April 28 at Stafford. A scheduled May 11 event for the series at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. was rained out and postponed to July 27. … Rowan Pennink and Ryan Preece are tied for the points lead on the Whelen Modified tour. Stefanik is third, one point behind the leaders and Ted Christopher is fourth in the standings, two points off the lead. The top eight in the standings are separated by nine points. … Preece, Christopher and Pennink also make up the top-three in the standings in the SK Modified division standings at Stafford. Preece leads the standings with two victories this year. Christopher is 14 points behind and Pennink is tied for third with Danny Cates, 16 points behind Preece. … Pennink picked up his first career Stafford SK Modified victory on May 17. Danny scored his first career SK Modified victory at Stafford last week.

More: The eighth event of the season at the shoreline oval. … Last week Jeff Rocco led every lap on the way to his second career victory at the track in the SK Modified division. Rocco became the fifth different winner in seven SK Modified events at the track this season. Rocco’s twin brother Keith has three victories. Other winners in the division this year include Kyle James, Joey Gada and Tyler Chadwick. … Reigning division champion Ken Cassidy Jr. goes looking for his third consecutive victory in the Mini Stock division this week.
