Todd Szegedy On The Pole For NASCAR Modified Tour Mr. Rooter 161 At Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Todd Szegedy backed up practice Saturday evening at the Waterford Speedbowl. Saturday night he’ll be looking for the Whelen Modified Tour clean sweep of the day at the shoreline oval.

After setting fast time in practice Saturday at Waterford, Szegedy went out in time trials and secured the pole in qualifying for tonight’s Whelen Modified Tour Mr. Rooter 161 at Waterford.

It was the first pole of the season and first at Waterford for Szegedy, the 2003 series champion from Ridgefield. It was his 10th the career series pole and first since 2011 at Lime Rock Park.

“It’s nice to get a pole, now I’ve just got to finish it off with a victory,” Szegedy said.

Szegedy toured the .375-mile oval with a fast lap of 13.833 seconds (97.593).

Reigning series champion and 2012 Mr. Rooter 161 winner Doug Coby of Milford will start outside of Szegedy after putting up a fast lap of 13.963 seconds (96.684 mph).

Ryan Preece, of Berlin winner in last week’s TSI Harley-Davidson 125 at Stafford Motor Speedway, will start third after a lap of 13.969 seconds in time trials (96.643 mph).

Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. will start fourth and Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. fifth.
