Waterford Notes: Jeff Smith Tops Late Models; Corey Barry In Front In SK Light Mods

WATERFORD – Electrical issues have plagued Jeff Smith at the Waterford Speedbowl over the last three events.

Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl though, the Old Lyme driver was wired.

Smith took the lead early from Rich Staskowski and held off Dillon Moltz and Keith Rocco in the closing laps to win the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday at Waterford.

“It was just a good race from the get go,” Smith said. “Luckily we didn’t have any cautions. I just want to thank everyone for running each other clean tonight because it’s a good thing we’re all in one piece. That’s always definitely a good thing.”

It was the second victory of the season for Smith, who won on April 20.

Rocco, of Wallingford, was second and Moltz, of Waterford, third.

“I was happy from the get go because the car actually ran tonight,” Smith said. “The last three weeks we’ve been having electrical problems. It was shutting off at the towards the end of the race. So I was like ‘When’s it going to shut off, when’s it going to shut off?’ and luckily it didn’t.”

Corey Barry of Plainfield held off the charges the charges of Glenn Griswold of Vernon to win the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature.

Victoria Bergenty of Plainville was third.

It was the third consecutive second place finish for Griswold at Waterford and his fourth consecutive podium finish.

Ken Cassidy Jr. of Lisbon won the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. Ray Christian III of Groton was second and Chris Ivory of Oakdale third.
