New England Racing Fuel Performer Of The Week: Bill Leonard

Each week during the 2013 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly division competitors at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson International Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Each week’s winner will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel. Drivers must have a Sunoco Race Fuel decal on their car to be eligible for the weekly award.

Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl, Mini Stock division driver Bill Leonard emerged from the mess of a late race scrum up front to win the 25-lap feature.

Leonard, of Charlestown, R.I., watched from third place as Ray Christian III and Ken Cassidy Jr. battled for the lead. When Christian sent Cassidy spinning at the white flag, it was Leonard that proved the beneficiary.

It was the 11th career Mini Stock win for Leonard and second consecutive at the Speedbowl, marking the first time in his career that he has scored back-to-back wins.

For his efforts, Leonard earns the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week Award.
