Rowan Pennink Leads The Way In Valenti Modified Racing Series At Oxford Plains

Rowan Pennink went to the lead past Anthony Nocella with 14 laps remaining and never trailed again on the way to victory in the 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series feature Saturday at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Me.

Pennink started 16th and was up to eighth by lap 62. He was third by lap 72 before making his way to the lead.

It was the second Valenti Modified Racing Series victory of the season for Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. and his first career win at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Richard Savary of Canton, Mass. was second and series points leader Tommy Barrett Jr. of Millis, Mass. was third.

Pennink also won this year on April 20 at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. Pennink and Barrett, with two wins each this year, are the only multi-time winners on the series in 2013.

It marked the ninth career Valenti Modified Racing Series victory for Pennink, who also competes full-time on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and weekly in an SK Modified at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Pennink was the sixth different winner in six Valenti Modified Racing Series events held at Oxford Plains.

Pennink took over sole possession of second place in the standings with the victory. He came into the event tied with Lou Mechalides for second in the standings. Mechalides, of Tyngsboro, Mass., was sixth. A season-low 21 cars started the event.

Also, it was announced by the VMRS officials that the penalty handed down to Pennink and his team after the most previous event at Canaan Fair Speedway was rescinded. Pennink had been penalized a lap in the postrace results, dropping him from eighth to 13th in the final running order. That penalty was rescinded upon further investigation by VMRS officials.
