WATERFORD – As the weeks wind down on the 2013 season at the Waterford Speedbowl, Mini Stock driver Ken Cassidy Jr. is chasing a host of record markers.
Saturday at the Speedbowl Cassidy, grabbed one of those big milestones.
Cassidy drove to his sixth victory of the season in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. It marked the 50th career Mini Stock feature over the last years for Cassidy.
“That seemed like a long time ago since our first one, but after the first one it just added fuel to the fire,” Cassidy said. “You win one and you want more. I couldn’t do it without all my guys.”
Dave Trudeau of Mansfield was second and Garrett Denton of Hope Valley, R.I. third.
With three events left this season Cassidy holds a 43 point lead over second place Denton in the standings. Cassidy has championships in the division in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012. He’s looking to become the first driver to win five Mini Stock championships at the track. If he can accomplish the feat he would join Dennis Gada, Phil Rondeau, Don Collins and Moose Hewitt as the only drivers with five or more titles at the track in a single division.
“It’s just awesome,” the 30-year old Cassidy said. “I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. To be up there in the record books with Bob Potter and Phil Rondeau and guys like that it’s just amazing. You always hope and wish and have dreams about it, but now it’s reality. It’s awesome. I’ve got a good bunch of guys and I couldn’t do it without them.”
