New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer Of The Week Award: Woody Pitkat

Each week during the 2013 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly division competitors at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson International Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Each week’s winner will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel. Drivers must have a Sunoco Race Fuel decal on their car to be eligible for the weekly award.

It was a weekend of great performances across the landscape of the Connecticut short track racing scene. Adam Gray kept up his stunning roll in the Late Model division at Stafford Speedway, Keith Rocco scored his first true win in the Budweiser Modified Nationals at the Waterford Speedbowl. And there were numerous more great runs around the state short tracks.

But in the end, when it came to choosing the Performer of the Week, there was no competition.

Woody Pitkat was in another realm from his competition.

Over four events at Connecticut’s three tracks over the weekend, Pitkat, of Stafford, had two wins and two second place finishes.

Pitkat held off Rocco to win the 30-lap SK Modified feature Thursday at Thompson and then made a final lap move on Rowan Pennink to grab the victory in the 40-lap SK Modified feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Pitkat also finished second to Gray in the Late Model feature at Stafford. Then Saturday night, in a rare appearance at the shoreline oval, Pitkat finished a nipping in the rear second to Rocco in the 150-lap SK Modified event at Waterford.

For his efforts, Pitkat is the recipient of this week’s New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week Award.
