New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer Of The Week Award: Woody Pitkat

Each week during the 2013 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly division competitors at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson International Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Each week’s winner will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel. Drivers must have a Sunoco Race Fuel decal on their car to be eligible for the weekly award.

Sunday at Stafford Motor Speedway he completed a journey that began three decades ago with the daydreams of a child sitting in the grandstands watching cars speed around Stafford Motor Speedway.

Woody Pitkat was the hometown kid from Stafford who instead of watching decided he’d rather be doing and joined the entry level DARE Stock division and then steadily made the climb up.

Sunday, in the most talent stacked short track division of the state’s three NASCAR sanctioned facilities, Pitkat reached the pinnacle at, securing his first Stafford Motor Speedway SK Modified division championship.

And it was a show hardly devoid of dramatics from Pitkat, who edged Ryan Preece by two points in the final standings. To do that, Pitkat had to come from the 14th starting spot Sunday. He took over third with eight laps remaining and pulled in behind Preece in second to secure the title.

And just to make the day that much sweeter, Pitkat followed up the championship clinching performance by winning the 30-lap Late Model feature Sunday at Stafford.

For his efforts, Pitkat is the recipient of this week’s New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week Award.
