It’s the big daddy of racing events on the New England Racing calendar. It’s the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson Speedway.

This year’s event brings together 15 divisions for three days of competition on the .625-mile oval at Thompson Speedway. It might be the most extensive menu of types of racecars on short track racing card in the country. From two Tour Modified divisions, to a plethora of weekly divisions, to Pro Stocks, Midgets, Trucks and SuperModifieds, the World Series has a little bit of everything.

More: The season ending event for short track racing in Connecticut. … Fifteen divisions are featured over three days of competition, highlighted by the championship deciding season finale for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on Sunday. It marks the third Whelen Modified Tour event of the season at Thompson. … Ryan Preece of Berlin goes into the final Whelen Modified Tour event of the season with a 26-point advantage over Doug Coby of Milford in the standings. Coby won the 2012 Whelen Modified Tour title. … Preece needs only to finish 22nd or better in Sunday’s 150-lap race to clinch his first series title. … The 22-year old Preece is looking to become the youngest winner since the division’s inception in 1985. … Preece has a series leading four victories in 13 Whelen Modified Tour events this year. Coby, Bobby Santos III and Mike Stefanik each have two victories. Justin Bonsigore, Todd Szegedy and Donny Lia are the other winners in the division this year. Stefanik won the Whelen Modified Tour season opener at Thompson in April and Santos won in the division’s August visit to the track. … Saturday marks the final event of the year for the Valenti Modified Racing Series. It is the second visit of the season for the Valenti Modified Racing Series to Thompson Speedway. Richard Savary won in the division’s first event of the year in August. … Rowan Pennink clinched his first Valenti Modified Racing Series championship following Sunday’s event at Lee USA Speedway.
