Malone held off Ryan Preece to win the 30-lap caution marred NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature at Thompson.

It was the second victory of the season for Malone, of Needham, Mass.Preece, of Berlin, was second and Woody Pitkat third.

Malone went to the lead at the start and then had to make it through countless restarts as cautions came in bunches during the event, which took one hour and 12 minutes to complete, including two red flag periods.

“It was just a crazy race,” Malone said. “We thought it was going to be a crazy race. These are how the races used go in the 80’s.”

There were so many laps spent running under caution, Malone actually ran out of gas. With fumes remaining, Malone had to get a little punchy to hold off Preece on the final restart of the day.

“I’ve got to say I’m sorry to Ryan,” Malone said. “I got into him on that restart. I ran him up high. We were out of gas and the car wouldn’t go at the start and I kind of just tried to slide and hope the car would start and we bumped. I know he was mad. I feel bad for that because Ryan is a really good racer and he’s always clean. So I feel bad for that.”

  1. so why are the results unofficail?

  2. Because they haven’t made them official yet. My understanding is that there are still some issues being examined at this point in time.
