THOMPSON – Celebrating championships at Thompson Speedway is nothing new for Mike O’Sullivan.
But Sunday, home turf proved the perfect turf for celebrating the biggest title of his career.
O’Sullivan, of Springfield, Mass., finished second in Sunday’s 50-lap Granite State Pro Stock Series feature at Thompson to capture his first series title.
“When you look at the race schedule at the beginning of the year, knowing that Thompson was the opener and the closer of the [season], it just made it extra special,” O’Sullivan said. ‘’
Larry Gelinas of Buxton, Me. won the event at Thompson. O’Sullivan’s brother Tommy was third.
O’Sullivan finished the season one with one victory. The former regular at Thompson Speedway ran part-time in the series in 2012 before deciding to make a full-time run this year.
“Right from the beginning. My brother and I, we work together and we travel a lot,” Mike O’Sullivan said. “We talked about it. I said ‘You know what, I want to win the championship.’ Tommy was building his car, he knew he couldn’t run the full season. I said, ‘I want to put all my energy into trying to win a touring series championship. Right from the beginning our goal was to win the Granite State Pro Stock Series championship.”
