Thompson Notes: John Zych Scores NEMA Midget Win And Series Championship

THOMPSON – John Zych inherited the lead on lap 17 and then drove away to win the 25-lap Northeastern Midget Association, in the process clinching the 2014 series title.

“It’s just amazing,” Zych said. “It’s huge.”

It was the fifth victory of the season for Zych, who took over the lead when Todd Bertrand was black flagged while leading the event for leaking water.

Bobby Santos of Franklin, Mass. passed Randy Cabral of Plymouth, Mass. for second place coming to the white flag.

Series officials confirmed that Zych ended up edging Cabral by 17 points in the final standings for the season.

Ben Seitz of Bourne, Mass. passed Chris Perley for the lead coming to the white flag and won the 50-lap ISMA SuperModified feature.

“I don’t know what happened to Chris,” Seitz said. “We had a real good car, his was just a little bit quicker than ours. But I’m happy right now.

Perley, of Rowley, Mass., held on for second and Alison Cumens of Lydell, Pa. was third.
