Though that fire behind the wheel of an SK Modified likely blazed for the last time for a while Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl Finale Weekend.

Griswold, of Vernon, won the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature at Waterford on Saturday.

It was the third SK Modified victory in the final four events of the season at Waterford for Griswold. Corey Barry of Plainfield was second and Chris Correll of New London third.

Randy Churchill of Oakdale recovered from a heat race crash and clinched the division’s 2013 championship with a fifth place finish.

After the race Griswold said he’s likely done in the division.

“This car is probably up for sale after [the World Series of Racing Oct. 18-20 at Thompson Speedway],” Griswold said. “I just can’t afford to do it. I love it, I have a passion for it, but it’s getting to the point where the money is taking away from my family and I can’t do that.”

Griswold passed Barry for the lead with 21 laps remaining and went unchallenged the rest of the way.

“It was a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication,” Griswold said. “Preparation in the shop. In shop is what I want to stress to all these young racecar drivers. The races are won in the shop during the week. I was working on this, as fast as it’s been, at 11 o’clock on Wednesday night I was in my shop tinkering with this thing, making it better.”

Duane Noll of Trumbull won the 25-lap New England Truck Series feature. Tom Metcalf of Stonington was second and Zach Sylvester of Lebanon third.
