Waterford Notes: Josh Galvin Tops Street Stock Field; Garrett Denton Wins In Mini Stocks

WATERFORD – The season long war was already concluded when the Street Stock division hit the track Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Galvin drove away from Corey Hutchings over the closing laps to win the 50-lap Street Stock feature.

It was the fourth victory of the season for Galvin, of Franklin, who finished the season second in the standings behind Hutchings, who had clinched the championship before the final race.

“The momentum going into next year is going to be good coming off a win,” Galvin said. “We really have a good idea of how the car reacts to things. It was a whole new car for us this year and we finally at the end of the season have it figured out. Next year all we’ve got to do is keep it out of trouble.”

Hutchings, of Salem, held on to finish second and Al Stone III of Durham was third.

“We’ve been working hard,” Galvin said. “We’re getting faster every week. The middle of the season there we kind of lost touch with what we were doing. Slowly, but surely – it might have been a little bit too late – we got this thing flying. It’s on rails now.”

Hutching tried to use some aggressiveness to get under Galvin with about 12 laps left, but there was no moving him.

“The motor developed a miss about halfway through the race,” Hutchings said. “The thing was really loose, it actually probably helped me a little bit. We lost a little bit of power. Not sure what happened, the motor’s been flawless all year. Congratulatons to Josh. I tried rattling him a little bit, but he did a great job.”

In the 25-lap Mini Stock event, which was an addition to the schedule from what was left over from last week, Garrett Denton of Hope Valley, R.I. was victorious. Ken Cassidy Jr of Lisbon was second and Glen Thomas Jr. of Groton third.
