Sign Works Oval Series

Taylor Martin put together an impressive run on Saturday. The 16-year-old from Windham, N.H., finished only 1.646 seconds behind defending series champion Shaun Buffington (Plainfield, Conn.) en route to a career-best second-place finish in the Sign Works Oval Series.

“After 12 consecutive third-places … I’m finally happy to be up in the top-two,” Martin said. “I had a great battle with Tom (Gray). It was a lot of fun out there.”

Gray (Baltic, Conn.) finished in third. The second-place finish moved Martin into a tie with Gray for second place in the season standings.

Shaun Buffington made it another clean sweep in the Moat Mountain Road Course Series over the weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Buffington (Plainfield, Conn.) edged Mike Alton (Nashua, N.H.) by 4.292 seconds on Saturday and by 0.888 seconds on Sunday. Thomas Gray of Sprague, Conn., finished third in each feature.

Defending series champion Casey Call (Pembroke, N.H.) picked up his first win of the 2014 season, beating Robby Gordon Douglas (Derry, N.H.) to the finish line by 0.922 seconds in Saturday’s Crown Trophy Bandolero race. Call and Douglas finished ahead of third-place Jacob Perry of Pawtucket, Conn.
