Stafford Notes: Albert Saunders, Glen Reen Get First Wins Of 2017; Johnny Walker Scores Second Straight

Albert Saunders

STAFFORD – The good part in 2017 for Albert Saunders has been showing up at the track each week and getting on the track feeling like he had a car that could win in the Limited Late Model division.

The frustration for the Stafford driver has been the fact that having car capable of winning wasn’t getting him to victory lane.

Friday Saunders turned that frustration around.

Saunders, of Stafford, drove to victory in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

“I don’t know if there was a difference tonight other than luck,” Saunders said. “The car’s been really good all year and I thought we had a car capable of winning every race this year and it hasn’t happened. So I’m thinking it must be luck.”

Jeremy Lavoie of Windsor Locks was second and Robert Bloxsom III of Stratford third.

It was the first victory in six starts this year for Saunders.

“It’s actually really frustrating because you don’t know how many chances you’re going to get to win each year so when you let chances slip away it gets annoying really quick,” Saunders said.

Glen Reen of Wilbraham, Mass. held of Kevin Gambacorta to get his first victory of the season in the 30-lap Late Model feature.

Gambacorta, of Ellington, was second and Michael Bennett of Stafford third.

After going winless in his first four events, reigning DARE Stock division champion Johnny Walker of Ludlow, Mass. got his second consecutive victory in the 15-lap feature for the division.

Michael Hopkins of Springfield, Mass. was second and George Bessette Jr. of Danbury third.
