Thompson Speedway Street Stock driver Corey Fanning has been suspended from all events at the track for the remainder of the 2025 season, and possibly longer.

The penalty stems from Fanning’s actions during the 25-lap Street Stock feature on April 16 at Thompson Speedway, where he was deemed to have intentionally wrecked race leader Ryan Waterman on lap 19. Waterman was hospitalized with a broken sternum, concussion and sprained left wrist following the wreck.

Thompson Speedway oval track managing partner Cris Michaud confirmed the penalty to RaceDayCT Tuesday evening.

The full scope of the penalty goes beyond Thompson Speedway and could go beyond the 2025 season.

Fanning has been banned from participation or attendance in any American-Canadian Tour and Pro All-Stars Series sanctioned events for the calendar year of 2025.

Michaud is co-owner of the American-Canadian Tour. Michaud partners with Pro All-Stars Series owner Tom Mayberry in operations of the Thompson Speedway oval. Michaud is also co-owner of Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt. and White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H. Mayberry owns Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine.

The penalty specifies that Fanning is banned from any property where there is an ACT or PASS sanctioned event taking place including, including but not limited to Oxford Plains, Thunder Road, White Mountain and Thompson Speedway.

The penalty is considered indefinite at this point in time by ACT and PASS officials. Fanning will be allowed to apply for reinstatement in February 2026, at which time ACT and PASS officials will consider whether or not to lift the suspension.

Waterman was on the inside, just ahead of Fanning going down the frontstretch as the pair crossed the start/finish line to complete lap 18 of the Street Stock feature on April 16. Going into turn one contact between the two sent Waterman’s car violently to the right resulting in an essentially head-on impact with the wall at the entrance to turn one. Video replays indicated that Fanning turned left into Waterman, hooking the right rear of Waterman’s car and sending him head-on into the wall. Fanning was ejected from the event after the incident.

Waterman was initially transported from the Thompson Speedway by ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam for evaluation and airlifted from Day Kimball to UMass Medical Center where. Waterman was released from the hospital on April 18.

Waterman is a longtime Street Stock division standout across multiple Southern New England short tracks, was taken from the track by ambulance following

Waterman, of Danielson, is the reigning Street Stock champion at Thompson Speedway. He was also the Stafford Speedway Street Stock champion in 2023. Waterman has Street Stock victories during his career at Thompson, Stafford, the New London-Waterford Speedbowl and New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
