Explanation On Call Involving Race Leader Spin During SK Mod Feature Sunday At Stafford

We’ve had many readers asking about a particular call during the 40-lap SK Modified feature from Sunday at the NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford.

On lap 15 Mike Christopher Jr. made a diving move under then race leader Jon Puleo into turn three. Puleo spun in the corner, was able to straighten out and kept moving forward as the caution flew.

Many thought the caution flew for the spinning car of Puleo, which led to confusion as to why Puleo was then put back in the top spot for the ensuing restart, with Christopher to his outside.

What happened was race officials were calling the caution for the car of Keith Rocco on the backstretch because race officials thought he had a blown motor. The caution just happened to have been thrown at the moment that Puleo was spinning. The official event report from Stafford Speedway lists the caution for fluid on the backstretch from the No. 22 car (Rocco).

Puleo eventually went on to win the season opening SK Modified event Sunday.
