Sunday’s NASCAR Modified Tour FaithFest Evangelistic Ministries 150 at North Wilkesboro Speedway was one of the ugliest series events in recent memory.
And one of the ugliest moments of the race came on lap 105 when Stephen Kopcik apparently intentionally wrecked fourth place running Tyler Rypkema in turn one.
On the lap before the incident Kopcik got by Rypkema for fourth place on the backstretch. In turns three and four Rypkema gave Kopcik a slight tap through the corner and powered under him to regain fourth place coming to the frontstretch. Then going into turn one Kopcik drove into the back of Rypkema, sending his car snapping hard and driver’s side into the wall.
Kopcik was black flagged for the incident and sent to the tail end of the lead lap for overaggressive driving. Kopcik ultimately came back to finish sixth. Rypkema was credited with a 19th place finish.
Today’s poll question asks, do you think Kopcik should face a suspension by NASCAR for his actions against Rypkema at North Wilkesboro. Vote below.
