Milestone Man: Dean Lambros Gets First SK Light Mod Win At Stafford, Becomes 700th Different Winner At Track

The Lambros name might not have all the much history at Stafford Speedway, but on Friday night Dean Lambros made his first victory at the historic half-mile oval a milestone in the track’s historic record book.

Lambros, of Northport, N.Y., passed Amanda West for the lead on lap nine and never trailed again on the way to victory in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.

Lambros became the 700th different winner in the history of Stafford Speedway. Lambros, who has an extensive history in sports car racing, was making his ninth career start in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford.

“It means a lot,” Lambros said. “Coming from Long Island, had my brother get here and really convince me to do Modifieds. I just can’t thank my family enough.”

Lambros’ brother William made his first SK Light Modified start at Stafford in 2023 and has moved up to competing in Tour Type Modifieds. William Lambros will make his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start Saturday at Lime Rock Park.

Modified racing Legend and former NASCAR Cup Series star Steve Park, a longtime friend of the Lambros family, was in victory lane celebrating the victory.

The victory gave longtime SK Light Modified competition Joey Ferrigno his first victory as a car owner.

“Just getting Joey’s first career team owner’s win, he can’t contain that excitement,” Dean Lambros said.

Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin was second.

“It was a good run,” Hovey said. “Good job to those guys. We were just a little bit off tonight. You can’t win every race, as much as I’d like to.”

West, of Colchester, was third.

“We just ended a little bit too tight,” West said. “… We definitely are making some gains [from] the beginning of the season and I’m happy to be back on the podium.”

After a pair of early cautions it was West controlling at the front on lap seven with Meghan Fuller in second and Dean Lambros in third.

On lap eight Dean Lambros got by Fuller to move to second. On lap nine Dean Lambros found the lane under West to move into the lead.

As Dean Lambros pulled away at the front, it was West fighting off Hovey for second for four laps. On lap 18 Hovey finally found the way around West, but Dean Lambros was checked out on the way to checkered.

“It got a little sketchy,” Dean Lambros said. “I fell back to sixth. I knew the car had it. I was just playing patient. That’s all this track asks for, just staying patient and not getting involved in any wrecks. That’s all you have to do.”
