STAFFORD – Call it a double of domination for Travis Downey at Stafford Speedway.
Downey beat the hottest driver in the Street Stock and the weather on the way to winning the 20-lap Street Stock feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.
It was the first victory of the season for Downey, of Barkhamstead, the reigning Street Stock division champion at Stafford.
Just after Downey took the checkered flag rain began to fall at Stafford and the grandstands were cleared for lightning in the area.
Bert Ouellette of Ellington was second and Boll Cote of Belchertown, Mass. was third.
Ouellette came into the night having won two of the three Street Stock features this season, with a sixth place in his other start.
“I just watched in the mirror and [was] keeping my lines tight, staying on the bottom of the track and not give [Ouellette] the opportunity to get under there.” Downey said. “That was a great race. [Ouellette] was there for I think about half of it look at it. We just had a fast car tonight.”
