A big shakeup came to the Late Model standings at Stafford Speedway Saturday morning following a review of proceedings at the track on Friday.
Late Model competitor Paul Varricchio Jr. was originally credited with a 15th place (last place) finish in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.
Varracchio did not start the event.
When Late Model competitors were instructed to enter the track from the turn three entrance area, Varracchio’s car did not start. His car was pushed onto the track by a push truck and immediately pushed to pit road where his crew went to work on the car. Varrachio never left pit road.
After the event Varrachio was credited with the last place finish, which earned him 22 points in the standings. Following the event, Varrachio was listed in second in the Late Model standings, two points behind leader Andrew Durand.
After reviewing what took place, Stafford officials made the decision to change the results on Saturday morning, deeming that Varracchio did not enter the track under his own power and should not be credited with points for the event. Updated results on Saturday morning changed Varracchio from a 15th place finish to a “Did Not Start” classification.
The changed result dropped Varracchio from second in the Late Model standings to eighth in the standings, 24 points off the lead.
