When it comes to the standings at Stafford Speedway, Kevin Gambacorta came into Friday night’s racing card at the track in a familiar position.
Gambacorta, the two-time defending Late Model champion, came into the sixth event of the season sitting atop the division’s standings.
Problem was, the win column for the Ellington driver was empty.
Gambacorta fixed that issue Friday.
Gambacorta passed Darrell Keane for the lead on lap 17 and never trailed again on the way to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature.
“We needed this,” said Gambacorta, who had three victories in 2023 and matched that same total again in 2024. “My confidence was down the last few weeks.”
It was the 19th career Late Model win at Stafford for Gambacorta and his 30th victory overall. He also has eight Limited Late Model wins and three Street Stock victories
“Nineteen Late Model wins, that’s unreal,” Gambacorta said. “Just to think about when I started, it was just me and my wife out here. I had no pit crew, I couldn’t buy tires. That’s pretty cool. It’s just good to get back to victory lane. We were pretty good at the beginning of the year and we struggled for a few weeks.”
Adam Gray of Granby, Mass. was second and Paul Varricchio Jr. of Berlin was third.
Devon Jencik of Canton topped the field in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature. It was the first victory of the season for Jencik.
“After all the bad luck we’ve had we deserved this one,” Jencik said.
Matt Clement of Wethersfield was second and Travis Hydar of Woodbury third.
